BALLET: (ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE - R.A.D.)

BALLET IS THE FUNDAMENTAL TRAINING THAT APPLIES TO ALL OTHER DANCE FORMS. THIS CLASS WILL DEVELOP AND IMPROVE POSTURE, ALIGNMENT AND TECHNIQUE. AN ESSENTIAL AND MANDATORY CLASS FOR COMPETITIVE STUDENTS.

About R.A.D.

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) promotes knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally. They seek to accomplish their mission through promoting dance, educating and training students and teachers and providing examinations to monitor and reward achievement.

The Academy has a strong heritage and stands at the forefront of international dance education. With over 14,500 Members spread across 82 countries, the Academy is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world, with a worldwide staff of 155 and 182 examiners and 190,792 children take RAD examinations each year.

The Academy is internationally recognised and respected. Our teachers inspire dancers all over the world every day and to our Members, frends and students the Royal Academy of Dance is a symbol for excellence in dance education - an organisation in which they place their trust.

R.A.D. Dress code

Women: Navy Blue Cotton/Tactel Sleeveless leotard with coordinated Academy belt MONDOR style #1645; tights MONDOR style ballet pink; pink soft ballet shoes in satin, canvas or leather with pink elastic. *Let the salesperson know the RAD level of ballet your child is in, and they will be able to help you purchase the correct items.

Hair: Must be secured in a correct ballet bun, close to head, netted, pinned securely with hair-pins and no side wisps. Bangs are to be clipped off face. If necessary, to keep hair close to head, hair should be gelled. Shorter hair to be clipped off face, and held close to head so that line of neck is clearly visible. A black or pink head-band-elasticised-is acceptable.

Men: White t-shirt, Navy lycra shorts, white socks, black canvas/leathers shoes

Open Ballet dress code: Body suit (any color) pink ballet shoes, shorts are permitted.

JAZZ

THIS CLASS CONSISTS OF A WARM-UP, FLOOR AND CORE WORK, PROGRESSIONS ACROSS THE FLOOR AND COMBINATIONS. THIS FORM OF DANCE IS A HIGH ENERGY, TECHNIQUE BASED CLASS THAT REQUIRES THE DANCER TO PRACTISE STEPS FORM WEEK TO WEEK.

Dress code: Tight fitting tank tops or tees that have some sort of stretch to them. Half tops are permitted. Stretch dance pants for girls and boys. Capezio jazz slipper.

 

TAP

THIS CLASS IS DESIGNED TO HELP WITH RHYTHM AND TIMING. DANCERS WILL FOCUS ON INTRICATE FOOTWORK AND SYNCOPATION AS WELL AS PROGRESSIONS ACROSS THE FLOOR AND COMBINATIONS.

Dress code: Regulation Bloch tap shoes fitted with Capezio Tele - Tone taps.

 

MUSICAL THEATRE

THIS CLASS INCORPORATES LYP SYNC, ACTING, AND DANCE TAKEN FROM SOME OF THE MOST WELL KNOWN POPULAR MUSICALS AND BROADWAY SHOWS FORM PAST TO PRESENT. MOVEMENT WILL BE MOSTLY JAZZ BASED.

Dress Code: Tight fitting tops and stretch dance pants for girls. Stretch pants and t-shirts for boys. Shoes are the choice of the teacher.

 

HIP HOP

THIS CLASS WILL FOCUS ON ISOLATIONS, COORDINATION, AS WELL AS STYLE. HIP HOP STEMS FROM STREET DANCING AND IS SIMILIAR TO WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE IN MUSIC VIDEOS. IT IS A HIGH ENERGY, FUN CLASS THAT MOVES TODAY'S MORE TRENDY MUSIC.

Dress Code: Baggy pants and a loose fitting top or sweatshirt with clean running shoes.

 

LYRICAL

THIS FORM OF DANCE IS A FUSION OF CONTEMPORARY MOVEMENT AND BALLET TECHNIQUE. DANCERS WILL WORK ON CORE STRENGTH, FLOOR WORK AND COMBINATIONS.

Dress code: Tight fitting tank tops or tee-shirts that have some sort of stretch to them
